New Logo, New Blog!

And, now you know what I have been doing these last few days/weeks! I have wanted to post and apologize for my lack of posting, but the truth is I have been posting! Just in a new location! Without further ado, I give to you: www.saramorrisphotography.com/blog. I have enjoyed my relationship with blogger for some time now...it opened it's arms and embraced me as I entered the world of blogging, it taught me the basics of html coding, and it gave me immediate access to this crazy world wide web, and to you. I have loved blogging so much, that I have decided to take a leap forward to a site with larger images, total customization, multiple pages, easy commenting, slideshow/video capabilities...the options are endless! So, hang in there while I figure it all out, but I think I'm off to a good start! Also, I am in the process of learning how to bring all of my old blog posts over to the new one, but the old blog will remain! So, update your bookmarks/favorites, spread the word and come and see me!

With the new studio and the new blog, comes the debut of my new logo! Ellen at Identity Kitchen has been a creative genius with not only my logo, but new business cards, price sheets, etc. I love way she has fused it all together, and I will be sure to share the different pieces as they all come in! She was great to work with. I gave her a few words...modern, vintage, whimsical and Anthropologie! My favorite! We were on the same page right from the start. Many thanks Ellen!

Engaged: Marne & Jeff

Marne & I met years ago while we were both in a dear friends wedding. So, I was thrilled when she got in touch and told me she was recently engaged! She and Jeff are getting married next Memorial Day weekend, also known in Indy as Race Weekend! We thought we'd get lucky with a trip to the Speedway just after the race, but there was a car out on the track testing it's tires. So, our trip to the track was cut short by a very nice/persistent man with a walkie talkie and yellow jacket. We were, however, able to grab a few shots before they ushered us out!

Elway got to join us for a couple of shots too. He is the most precious dog I have ever met, and definitely quite the model!

Event: Safari Party

I couldn't help but share some of the details from this party I photographed last week. The party had a safari theme, and the planners didn't miss a beat! Great Cooks planned and catered the party, and it was fabulous. From the artwork on the menu...to the beautiful beaded wine bottle toppers. They thought of everything!

This week is jam packed with studio planning meetings, so I will be offline for a bit. I should be back up and blogging towards the end of the week or early next week. Have a good day!

SMP Framing

Framing is here! I believe I have shared before that SMP will be carrying frames. Yeah! In the new studio I hope to have a couple of different options for you. I'll have some classic frames, as well as some fun, funky frames. A recent client just ordered a few, and I snapped a few pictures of them before they went out the door to hang on her wall. Wedding: Lorrie & Jason

Lorrie & Jason...two who were made for each other. Their love for each other and their families is so apparent, and completely shines through with their wedding party. The sister as the maid of honor, the dad as the best man...and, all the nieces and nephews had roles too. Even the 2 little babies who were pulled down the aisle in a beautiful wagon by one of their older cousins. It was fantastic! Lorrie was worried about getting some shots of all the kids before the meltdowns began, and I'd say we got it! Along with many more for sure! One of my favorite parts of photographing a wedding is telling the whole story for a couple. All of the little details are so important. So, here you go Lorrie & Jason! I hope you are having a fabulous time in Jamaica!!

New Studio for SMP!!!

Before we left for Thailand I was driving through Broad Ripple and it happened...the clouds parted, the sunbeams came down, music came out of no where and the butterflies lifted my car and flew me right down the street to where the halo of light was shining down on the most perfect VACANT location to make the new home for Sara Morris Photography. I made calls, sent emails, harassed my friend who works for the landlord, and basically begged and pleeded for the chance to take a glimpse inside. And, then we had to leave the country!!! I was convinced I would return to find a new, fancy business had moved in and swept away my dream. Then near the end of the trip I received an email back that they would love to show me the space! So, after months of wishing, talking, emailing and contemplating, the lease has been signed and SMP has a new studio and home! There is plenty of work to be done, but it has all been so exciting. Meeting with the floor guy tomorrow, the painter Thursday, and so on. I hope to be open officially sometime in June!

It's located in Broad Ripple on the back street of Westfield. Shares a parking lot with French Pharmacie and Petite Chou. RSVP use to be located there. If you head south on College towards Broad Ripple Avenue, turn left on the one way street just before you get to Broad Ripple Ave, pass by Bazbeaux, Midtown Grill and Petite Chou and then you have arrived!

The "studio" space will be used for many things...a gallery, a meeting space, a shooting space, a framing store, and so much more! I am still working out all of the logistics, but will keep you posted as things unfold!

Also, I owe you fantastic blog readers an apology. Normally the blog would have been my first place to go to spill the beans, but in my excitement last week I updated my Facebook status to say I had signed the lease and then it all unfolded from there. Look at this little guy! 4 weeks old, and a complete angel. Poor little one was working on getting over a cold, and I couldn't get over how cute his sneezes and coughs were. He was such a trooper, and quite the little model. I can't wait to go back to do this whole family in the fall!

I had high hopes of catching up today with my blogging, but it just didn't happen. Instead, I enjoyed brunch with my family, a much needed nap/rest, cleaning out my home office, and a fantastic dinner with one of my favorite families. So, I finally was able to see the canvas wall display we created of little Mason last summer. It is just breathtaking! It just so happened that while I was there Mason called in via skype to talk with his grandparents. And, I got to see him on the webcam. He is getting so big! I can't believe it was almost a year ago when I took his portrait.

Wedding: Dave & Amber

This past Friday, I joined the fabulous Jessica from Lemongrass Photography to photograph Dave & Amber's special day. The weather did not cooperate 100%, but Dave & Amber never noticed...they only had eyes for each other! I was in charge of the boys leading up to the ceremony, and they were a blast to hang out with. You could feel the friendship throughout the morning and learn about it through the best men toasts. I drove Dave to meet up with Amber for their "first look" and it brought tears to my eyes! He was so anxious to see his bride, and the moment their eyes locked I will remember forever! Congratulations to you both, and thank you to you and your friends and family for a perfect day!

Wedding Guestbook: Aaron & Alissa

Alissa is one of my oldest friends, and I was thrilled to photograph her and Aaron's engagement session last year. We had a beautiful day, and their happiness together completely shined through! I recently put their images in a 12x12 hard bound book to be used as their guestbook during the wedding. It came out so beautifully, I had to order one for myself!! Custom guestbooks are available with any engagement session. Here are a few shots of it!

Here comes wedding season! With the weather earlier this week, it was amazing we were able to pull this shoot off! My photographer friend Jessica had a great idea to jump start our creativity for the kick off of the season...she found the couples, McNamara donated the flowers and the hail/sleet/rain parted for about 45 minutes so we could actually shoot outside!!! I love the new locations and mixing the beauty of a couple in love with the urban backgrounds too!

Last year I had the honor of photographing my brother and his friends before Prom, and this year I had the pleasure of photographing them at Prom. It has been awhile...years actually...since I had seen a prom photo, and I had a feeling my old prom photos weren't the best to revisit for ideas! So, I went with what I would want if it were my prom all over again. I love the way the backdrop turned out, and can't wait to use it in more portraits. Also, the prom committee was excited when I mentioned the idea of having a "photobooth" available. And, I am so beyond thrilled that we did it! This is something I am starting to have available at weddings and such and thought it would be great for Prom as well. So, with a James Bond Diamonds are Forever theme of course we had to add some props! Here are a few of my faves...

It's that time of year again! College applications are being thought about, Prom is around the corner, and Senior Year is on the horizon. These 3 lovely ladies...Maddie, Lydia & Samantha...came out to help me explore some new locations I had wanted to shoot at. We had a beautiful day, a lot to chat about and they were real troopers! Grace & Claire for Mini Boden

You may remember these two from last season's Mini Boden photoshoot. I was so happy when their mom got in touch again because it was trunk show time! Gracie and Claire were so brave today while bearing the cold! We pretended we were in Florida on the beach! We shot a few outdoors, then quickly went in where the girls showed me all around their rooms. They are so fun to photograph and we even got a few shots of their new baby brother, Quinn, also sporting Mini Boden...

P.S. Mini Boden is one of the clothing lines I highly recommend for photoshoot attire!!!!! Everything is so cute!

Hello there! Sorry for my absence on the blog last week. As you know, I was off in Atlanta participating in a children's photography workshop called Learnfest. It was an action packed amazing 3 days with 4 of the country's top children's photographers...Audrey Woulard in Chicago, Tamara Lackey in Durham, NC, Laura Novak in Wilmington, DE and Lena Hyde in Palm Beach. Each of these ladies comes from a different school of thought, yet incorporate a lot of the same ideals into their businesses. My notebook is packed with ideas that I can't wait to implement into SMP! In addition to learning from these fabulous ladies, I had a chance to get to know other photographers all over the country. I made friends for life and am looking forward to following their businesses as well!

So, it was home from ATL and off to Florida for a quick Easter getaway. My husband and his brother are best friends. And, it just so happens his brother is dating my best friend from college. So, we couldn't be any happier. Greg and his brother are big fisherman and have found a captain on Isla Morada, Florida who they visit at least 4 times a year together and have caught anything from small yellowtail up to a giant shark! So, this time they decided to invite us along for the trip! It was a quick one, but we had a great time as usual. And, being quite the fisherwoman I am...I reeled in a pretty good sized wahoo. Plus, stone crab for Easter brunch...can't beat that!

So, back to business this week! I have had an amazing few months in the off season, and am now looking forward to the leaves coming out, the flowers blooming and hopefully the sun shining! This week kicks off with a Mini Boden photo shoot, 2 senior shoots later this week and I will be at Park Tudor's Prom this Saturday doing a modern spin on their prom photos as well as doing a photo booth type shoot! I can't wait to share it all with you!!!

Learnfest '09

Just as I am feeling caught up from Thailand, I am off to Atlanta this coming Monday through Thursday to attend an incredible workshop! Learnfest is a 3 day/3 night program put on by 4 of the country's top children's photographers, as well as a gathering of creative types to meet, share stories, inspire and have fun. When the workshop went on sale I sat at the computer and hit "refresh" so many times to be sure I was able to sign up and get in it. So, after much anticipation, I cannot believe it is finally here!

These past few months have been a great refresher on the business side of things. I had an incredible time out in Vegas getting caught up with new things in the wedding photography industry, and I can't wait to see what I get out of Learnfest and all things regarding children's photography.

Sessions are starting to book up fast for May, so get in touch if you would like to get on the calendar! The leaves will be back soon and it will be time to get shooting!!!

Happy Birthday SMP!

Belated is more like it! March 28th marked the 1st birthday of Sara Morris Photography! I can't believe it! On March 28, 2008 I had 3 hits on the blog...probably all me! Now one year later, I am up to 8,832! Thank you to the most incredible clients ever. You make my "job" a dream, and I love being able to give you memories to last a lifetime.

Stay tuned for BIG changes in Sara Morris Photography. There are lots to come! It starts with a new "look" to SMP, and an even bigger surprise that I can't even begin to talk about...shhh, it's a secret for now!

This first year has brought me so much enjoyment, I can't wait to see where year 2 takes me!

Koh Phangan...underwater!

So, I am not a scuba diver. I have found I am most happy with my mask and snorkel circling above while those willing test the depths below. And, the snorkeling off of Koh Phangan was some of the best I have ever seen...an incredible amount of fish, soft coral gardens, and the most vibrant colors you have ever seen. But, as I swam around above I could see the darker depths below, and wondered what could they possibly be seeing down there?

Greg's divemaster, Elliott, was kind enough to share his fabulous underwater images with me. You've seen his shots of the whale shark as well as the video. And, here are a few more of the mysterious depths below. This first one is my absolute favorite!

Also, while we were on Koh Phangan, Greg dove and I snorkeled with Chaloklum Diving. You can see many more pictures on their site too!

I have to admit, I am starting to question my snorkel, and thinking about learning to dive!

My love affair with Thailand

It started in January of 2003. One of my best friends, Kelly, was traveling to Thailand with a friend, and as their trip neared the friend had to cancel. So, Kelly was set to go by herself, which she would have been perfectly content with. She is the type of person that takes the bull by the horns, makes friends with anyone, and loves traveling and photography above all else. We definitely had that last one in common. So, when she asked if I wanted to join I jumped on it! I was in my second year of grad school, and just happened to have the month of January off. Perfect timing!

I should digress a bit and tell you how Kelly and I met. My junior year of college I studied abroad on a trip called Semester at Sea. We traveled around the world on a boat in 100 days leaving from the Bahamas, stopping at 9 countries along the way and docking on the other side in Seattle. Our first country we stopped at was Venezuela. I knew no one on my side trip, and decided one night I would wander down to the bar where I saw a couple of other students gathering. I'm not really the shy type, but I will admit I was a bit hesitant...I kept thinking, "Hi, my name is Sara. Will you be my friends?" There ended up being a bunch of boys and myself. So, I had a seat and started to chat. A few moments later, another girl came in basically the same way I had, and was thinking "Hi. My name is Kelly. Will you be my friends?" It just so happened she was also a photographer, liked to laugh and have fun, and the rest is history. I owe a lot to that first night in Venezuela. Many of those at that table became lasting friends throughout the entire journey. And, Kelly and I became attached at the hip. We were both selected to be in the photography program, and our rooms just happened to be next to each other on the ship. I would play loud/bad music, specifically a song called Sha-la-la-la-la, through the wall, and she would pound and pound to get me to turn it off. On that boat we were best friends, sisters, each others conscience, classmates, and traveling companions.

So, as we made our way to Thailand, it brought back such good memories, and also gave us an opportunity to build many more. I was in San Francisco at the time, and Kelly was in Chicago where we had lived together before I left for school. So, we met in Tokyo, headed to Bangkok, stayed up all night and caught the 6 am flight to an island called Koh Phangan. We had great plans of traveling all around Thailand during our 11 day stay, but we settled into a quiet town called Chaloklum and never left. It was the most magical place, and a place that is so hard to explain to others. We spent the days in the sun, and the evenings making new friends and listening to others traveling adventures.

That trip is one of my most important memories. In June of that same year, Kelly was killed in the Chicago porch collapse. It was/is one of the most frustrating points in my life. She lived with such passion, and had an incredible intensity about her when it came to anything she cared about. She was a real spitfire, and I was/am so honored to have called her my best friend and soulmate at times. She was one of my biggest supporters when it came to my photography, and I can still see her talking wildly wth her hands as she tried to explain what a photograph meant to her. She gave me so many things in life...support, laughter, the travel bug, friendship, a deeper meaning, an incredible 2 years in Chicago, love, and she gave me Thailand...

I'd like the memory of me

to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow

of smiles when life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo

whispering softly down the ways,

of happy times and laughing

times and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who

grieve, to dry before the sun

Of happy memories that I leave

when life is done.

I still talk to her from time to time, and can hear her making fun of me, or cursing at me depending what may be going on. I have wanted to go back to Thailand for so long, it just never seemed like the right time. It was important for me to share such a special place with Greg, and even more important to me that he said he would love to go back!

Thailand...missing you already!

Well, I must say, I am quite behind in blogging. However, I am thrilled that I was able to blog a little bit along the way. I debated to take my computer or not on the trip, and am happy I made the decision to. Once we got to Koh Phangan we settled in to some incredible relaxing time, so I did put the blogging on hold for the remainder of the trip. But, I am home and hope to be back to normal this week! I have lots of pictures to sort through, and will get some more up here during the next few days. My timing is entirely off right now, and I seem to be constantly exhausted. I'm ready to snap out of that!

We had an amazing journey in Thailand, and I had a really hard time leaving. A friend asked me on Friday what I missed most while I was away, and I really couldn't think of anything other than my family and friends. Thailand is such an easy place to travel around...the food is fantastic, the people so friendly, and the scenery is breathtaking. We started off the trip in the bustling streets of Bangkok, headed up to the lush mountains in Chiang Mai and topped it all off with a full 7 days of R&R on Koh Phangan, one of my most favorite places on Earth!

I start a 3 day seminar tomorrow, but I should get it together enough to get some more pictures up here over the next few days. Thanks for your patience!! Off to bed and it's still light out!

Thailand...Greg and his whaleshark again

And, more of Greg's whale shark. Elliott, Greg's divemaster, was able to film the encounter with the whaleshark. It is just spectacular! You'll see Greg pop up half way through. I have many more photos of Elliott's as well that I will share later. He's quite the underwater photographer!

Thailand...Whale Shark

When we started planning this vacation, one of the first things Greg looked into was the diving on the island. He would stalk the site of the diving company we were planning to use to see what they had seen that day. And, low and behold, they had just started spotting Whale Sharks in the area. So, his hopes were totally up for seeing one! And, I was nervous. Yesterday was his first day of diving, and they spotted the whale shark twice! He could not be more happy. From what I understand, they are amazing creatures, and enormous in size! His dive master/our new best friend, Elliott, gave us a couple of snaps from their dive. This whale shark was about 4 meters long. I also have a video I just can't get it to post so I will work on that. Here is Greg and his whale shark...

Thailand...Island Pics

It has been a bit tricky so far to post too many pictures, because connections are so slow. But, I found an internet cafe that is a bit better. So, I thought I would share a few of the island we are currently on...Koh Phangan. This first one is a shot taken while we were on the ferry over from Ko Samui. We took an hour and a half flight from Chiang Mai to Samui, then a 30 min. ferry ride over. Koh Phangan is the island in the distance...

My husband wearing what was going to be the funny souvenior for my family's Christmas exchange this year...that is our topic this year. Last year they had to be homemade. However, it has now become a part of Greg's wardrobe...so, sorry Katie! We'll be sure to find something just as fabulous! We did get my brother Trey's gift here, and it is perfect!!

Our first night on the island, we made friends with an Australian girl named Jade. She was hesitant to rent a motorbike, which just so happens to be the main mode of transportation here. So, we met up with her yesterday, and Greg gave her some instructions, and she was off! The three of us toured the island on our bikes, and one of our stops was at a Chinese temple on the top of a hill...

I was so impressed with Jade's riding ability, that I decided to give it a go myself this morning. Greg is diving today, and usually I just ride along on the back of his bike. So, I was ready to stretch my independence a bit here as well. We did a practice session last night, and it went well. I don't want to boast too much because I still have to get around a bit today, and don't want to jynx myself. But, seriously, I think I'm ready for that Vespa back home!

I drove myself to yoga today, and this is the studio we were in. Totally open on all sides and it overlooks the jungle. I could have stayed there all day. They have pilates once a day as well, so I'll have to try that out and see how it differs from my practice in the states. They offer long retreats here as well, where you stay for weeks at a time. I'm completely intrigued by it, as well as a meditation retreat in India...but, that's for another trip.

And, dinner last night. We traveled to another beach and walked along looking at all the different bbq's being offered. This was the one we settled on. And, yes we ate the shark. It was actually quite good. Greg wants to go back again tonight.

Thailand...starting to forget which day

Ok, so let’s see where I left off. We were headed out on our 3 day/2night safari trek. To backtrack, it is really hard to decide on which trek to book. I would say the majority of people show up to Chiang Mai, check out their options and then book their trek. There is a large population of people traveling for months at a time, and they have the luxury of being more flexible with times, etc. Jealous! So, this is what I was most worried about when planning the trip. We had such a short time there we wanted to make sure we were headed out on the right one. I had been joking with many that we would not return because we had booked the “budget” trek. $50 for both of us for 3 days! It’s crazy!

Well, to make a long story short, we booked the right one. We could not have been with a better group! The tour company picked us up at our hotel, we picked another couple up at their hotel, and then we set off to meet up with the rest of our group at a local market to get our supplies for dinner, breakfast, etc. And, then we were off! All in all, there were 12 people on the trek and 3 guides…2 Brits, 2 French, 2 Germans, 2 Austrians, 1 Finnish, 1 Japanese, and us. We were a great mix and had so much fun exchanging stories. I’m not going to lie, the trek started off incredibly rough…just imagine walking on a stairstepper (if those still exist), at the highest level, for 5 hours. Yes, this is how I was feeling. We headed up a waterfall first, and went for a bit of a swim. That was one of our highlights for sure. The power of the falls was crazy, and I could barely hold on. After that we set off on the stairstepper again…we were the sweatiest, most dirty people I had ever seen.

And, oh, I forgot! Before we made it to the beginning of our walk, we stopped along the way to take a brief ride on an elephant through the jungle and down through a river. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this, because I have a strong belief that elephants belong in the wild. But, the outfit we used seemed to be very nice to the elephants, and gave them lots of space. So, I decided to be ok with it for the time being. It was more fun than I was expecting. As we walked with him, there were stops along the way where we could purchase bananas to feed him. Don’t even think about giving your elephant just one banana…he would eat 4-6 at a time. I guess in a day they eat about 200 kilos worth of food. We had fun walking with him, and Greg even sat on his head for a bit.

Ok, so to get back to trekking. It was so hard! We were so sweaty, and I wasn’t even carrying our pack! Greg was my hero! We only had one small backpack so we packed our things in it, and he carried it the whole time. I would say day 1 was 80% uphill. We were relieved when we finally made it to the village we were to stay in that night. The accommodations were basic, and a sight to be seen. But, it didn’t matter, there was a cold shower and no more hills to be walked over for a bit. That night was one of my favorites. We had a great meal, sat around telling stories, and one of the guides played the guitar. To top it all off, he even played “Country Roads” without me requesting it! Somewhere during the evening, I ate a cricket. Greg ate handfuls of crickets…I ate only one. Eating bugs here is a normal occurance. They season them and fry them up! When in Rome, I guess.

Sleeping that night was not so good…there was a thunderstorm, pigs squeeling, locusts buzzing, and the village rooster crows at 3am. So, day 2 was a little tough, but luckily mostly downhill. We made it through hiking, and ended the day with a bamboo rafting trip down a river. At this point, Greg and I were the only 2 to continue on for one more day. Everyone else had signed up for the 2 day/1 night trip. So, in the end, Greg and I decided to cut our trek short one day. We had honestly had so much fun with the group, plus we and all of our belongings were soaked from the thunderstorm, so we decided our trek was over as well.

We returned to Chiang Mai, moved our flights to the islands up, and are currently residing in our bungalow on the beach! More to come…

Thailand Day Three...

Sa-wut dee! Poot pah-sah tai mai bpen. That means…Hello! I cant speak Thai. Hi! So, we are just beginning day 3, I think. It has been an incredible whirlwind here in Bangkok, and it's hard to believe we are already off to Chiang Mai today. Yesterday we spent the day fishing on a lake loaded with monster catfish as you can see above. I've been trying to think of something witty for a holiday card later this year to accompany the pic. Anyway, Greg's largest fish was about 68 or so pounds! Huge! Together we caught about 10 fish, and had quite a few get away and broken hooks. When we started planning the trip here, this activity was at the top of Greg's list and it definitely did not disappoint!

The day before fishing we did all kinds of things...hired a long tail boat to take us up the river to Wat Pho, home of the beautiful golden reclining buddha. Traveled by tuk-tuk to the weekend market and made friends with some ladies over a Pad Thai for lunch. Saw squirrels being sold as pets (we think) as well as all kinds of puppies. It wasn't the depressing kind of animal sale I have seen before. After the market we returned for a little nap before we navigated Bangkok public transportation (including a train transfer) to attend a Thai boxing match. It was not all that we had hoped for, but still entertaining. Apparently, there was a big football match on so many thais had gone to watch that. But, we still had fun watching the matches as well as the locals placing their gambling bets with enthusiasm.

So, now we are leaving our magic home in the sky above the canal (our Bangkok hotel has been marvelous), and headed to the jungles of Chiang Mai. Tomorrow morning we leave for our jungle trek, so it will be a few days before I post next!

Life somehow got in the way before we left, and I didn't have time to post. So, we are now officially in Thailand! I came here many years ago with one of my best friends, and we traveled to the island of Ko Phangan with many plans of traveling all over the beautiful country, yet somehow we never left the island. I have wanted to come back for many years, and it finally worked out to be the best time for Greg and I to make the trek. So, we have arrived in Bangkok and are at the end of day 1. I'll write more later as Greg is urging me to get ready so we won't be late to a Thai boxing match tonight. We are exactly 12 hours different from Indy. So, as we are getting ready to head out, most of you are probably just getting up. Talk soon!!!

A blast from the past + a bit of inspiration

After a 3 week hiatus and a location move, Bella Chic reopened today in it's totally fun warehouse space. Julie has been hard at work to turn the space around, and it looks as if it were meant for Bella to be here. I showed up today to help out, and was blown away. Not only has she morphed the space into this completely cool, urban location in the middle of Carmel, but when cleaning out the old space she had also discovered 8 of my old black and white prints that we had framed for a home show back almost 2 years ago. So, she surprised me and hung them in the door frame to the left of the counter shown in this first image. I couldn't stop looking at them today...I have said it before, but there is something so incredible about a black and white fiber print. These images were just step one in the discovery for my final project in grad school, but many years later, they tend to be some of my favorites! These are some digital pics of the framed b&w's, so the color is a bit off, but it was fun to unexpectedly get to revisit them today! Makes me want to get back into that darkroom...

So, I have a new calling in life. For most of you who know me, I love to travel. I love the adventure of new places, the colors and smells of unfamiliar lands, and I mostly love meeting the people along the journey and learning from them. I was fortunate to learn at a young age that international traveling is very possible if you take the time to figure it out. I can't believe I am just mentioning this now, for I have been so excited I can hardly stand it, but free time has not been on my side. Greg and I are leaving for Thailand this Thursday!!! I have a lot more to say about that in another post. But, first I want to share with you my new friend Matt...well, we're not really friends but I hope to stalk him on the internet until we are. And my new calling...someday I hope to be Matt. You have to watch his video. I have watched it 3 times tonight...it will bring a smile to your face and your toes a tapping!!

During this home stretch to get us out of Winter, I have been working on a few special projects for Sara Morris Photography. And, today I was asked what my favorite image that I have taken thus far is. It didn't even take me a second to know which one it was. I'm not sure exactly why...maybe because it's from the early days of SMP, or maybe it's because my memory of taking this is so strong in my mind. But, I think this image says so much about who I am as a photographer...I love adventure, I'm willing to do anything, and I love the good light. Plus, I'm not ashamed to put your new, precious cargo in a suitcase! Looking back on it, I would have done many things differently...maybe a diaper cover, maybe a different hand motion. But, there's always room for improvement. Honestly, I love it so much I'm tempted to blow it up, print it on canvas and hang it in my office as a reminder of what it feels like to snap your favorite image...

His parents are some of my favorite people, and Greg and I traveled down to Nashville, TN over the weekend to take his portrait. He is just 10 weeks now, and a complete angel. Plus, according to my Greg, he is his namesake. {He chooses to ignore that Gregory is the little guys mommy's maiden name} We had fun just watching him, feeding him bottles, and watching my Greg and Gregory's father try and dress him was the highlight of my weekend. Being held up on the couch this week, has started to make me a bit stir crazy. It always seems that I get sick right about the time that I am feeling extremely motivated to get some work done. So, I'll just have to postpone cleaning out the office a few more days...darn!! Instead, I have been playing around with some textures that I recently acquired. I have not been a big user of textures in the past, but have started to become more intrigued in how they can add to certain images....I like the air of mystery in these below, and think the textures bring out a bit of wonder....my favorite!

So, I've been slacking. I know it, and I am sorry! I have come down with the dreaded cold that has been a long time coming. And, I have decided to open my arms and welcome it, as it has stayed away longer than I thought it would. So, it's here and I hope it moves along quickly! I've got babies to photograph this weekend!

I finished my last big shoot day with Blue Cross Blue Shield this past Monday, and I will have pics to post from that. Just not yet! The shoot went incredibly well, and I was very happy with how the images turned out. This was our 4th day shooting as a team, and we were in such a rhythm! And, the new camera was incredible!!!

So, now I'm lying on the couch hoping to feel better! In my couch ridden internet haze, I have just signed up to be a part of the Indianapolis Wedding Blog! Since WPPI, I have had weddings on my brain, and I can't wait to start getting the word out. I will be listed as one of their recommended vendors, and will have an ad up for a month that will link directly to my site. So, check it out! A moment in Vegas...

This WPPI was my first photo convention. 12,000+ photographers and me walking somewhere among them. I had no idea what to expect! I had an old friend that would be there for part of the time, and a friend of a friend that I was too meet up with as well. And, I had high hopes of making some new friends. So, when Jessica Claire {one of my photo idols} posted on her Shootsac blog that she was looking for volunteers to work in her booth at the tradeshow, I jumped on it!! I kicked off the tradeshow hanging in the Shootsac booth and passing out awesome Shootsac tote bags to rowdy attendees...we ran out about 3 hours into the show and I quickly became the most disliked person in the room. However, it was an incredible experience and I got to spend time chatting with Jessica and watching other photogs whose blogs I frequent pass by. It was like a celebrity photog sighting all weekend long, and I loved it!

I got home late last night, and am quickly getting back to reality. I have so many thoughts running around in my brain right now, and have decided I need a few days to process it all. The speakers had such great messages, the vendors incredible products, and the friends I made all inspiring. So, for now I will share my Shootsac pics and work my way through the rest...

Life in Vegas...

I have never spent much time in Vegas. Only been here once before, and we didn't spend much time on the strip. Well, this time I have come to be part of WPPI, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. The largest conference and trade show in the industry. I am so excited! Greg and I flew out on Friday, and made a small vacation out of it. We spent time with friends, had fantastic dinners, stayed up way too late making friends at the craps table, and won big on a slot machine of all things! It was a fantastic weekend, and a blast spending it with my hubby. He returned to normal life in Indy last night, as my conference got under way. I am so excited! There are quite possibly 12,000 photographers wondering around the MGM! For the next 3 days I will have the chance to see some of the photographers I idolize teach, hopefully make new photog friends, and attend the incredible trade show...a chance to see new album companies, be introduced to revolutionary software, and come into contact with all things new in the wedding industry. I can't wait to see what it is all about, and to incorporate it into my business. Here are a few fun pics so far...

Help! I have one more day of shooting for my Blue Cross Blue Shield project, and I am looking for a pregnant model to pose for us. The shoot will take place on Monday, February 23rd at Methodist Hospital from about 5pm - 10pm, but you will not need to be there the whole time. The gig pays $300, and will be a lot of fun! Woo-hoo! The purpose is to capture images of a Dr. interacting with many different patients. The only requirements are that you be pregnant and showing! The James Hotel

We had a great weekend in Chicago...beautiful weather, a dear friend's birthday, a night of Karaoke, and a fantastic place to stay. I am planning a retreat in March in Chicago, so I did my site visit of our venue over the weekend, and it is incredible. The James Hotel is a small boutique hotel at Ontario and Rush, and is perfect for the upcoming event we are having. The space is hip and modern, the rooms spacious and unique, and the food incredible! The room was so cool when we walked in I had to get some shots before our luggage uglied it up.

I have been thinking a lot about my photography recently...reflecting and looking ahead at the same time. I am starting to talk with a designer about creating a new brand for Sara Morris Photography, and I have been coming up with some thoughts on what my photography is all about. The one thing I keep coming back to is that I strive to be the best portrait artist I can be. Because I do so many things...children, families, weddings, jewelry, retail, etc...what ties it all together? I make sure to treat every image, whether it be a portrait of a two-year-old or a closeup of a bracelet, as it's own special piece of art. For a family session, you will be given around 30 images of pure art. And, for a wedding you will be given hundreds of artful images. I am not the photographer who is going to spend seconds on an image. Every single image gets personal attention and a special touch. So, here are a few examples of me playing around with some different finishes:

A Facebook thing...

Facebook is a world I have come to love. I hesitated to join, even put my foot down for awhile. But, somehow, someway I was persuaded. I have been able to reconnect with people that have been special to me throughout my life, but somehow I had slipped out of touch with. It's a place where I can read what my friends are up to, see pictures of their new babies, and just the other day I even watched the inauguration of our new President there. So, tonight, while I should have been editing, i spent about an hour typing up 25 Things You May Not Know About Me. It's been going around on Facebook, and today I was tagged! So, I thought I would share with you. Some things may not make sense as they are geared to Facebook readers, but you'll get the majority of it. Here you go...

1. I love, love, love reading things like this! Yet, I hate writing them, and I definitely don't like tagging people to also do it. It reminds me of one of those forwards where if you don't send it to 25 other people in the next 25 seconds your world is going to end. But, I'm going to do it anyway!

2. I once wrote a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. You can see it on my blog: www.saramorrisphotography.blogspot.com. I think it was probably easier to write that than it will be to write this.

3. I am 32 years old, and I still tivo General Hospital each and every day. I don't always watch it, but it's there waiting just in case.

4. I make up memories from my childhood. I don't know where they come from or why I do it, but it happens from time to time. I have been overheard telling a story of how my older sister lived with my parents in a trailer when she was first born. There's nothing wrong with that other than it never happened. Now I have to check with my sisters to see if things are real or imaginary.

4. I have a memory of my Mom sitting outside my door when I was little while I fell asleep. I'm not sure if that one is real or not, but I love it and plan to sit outside my kids doors sometimes while they fall asleep.

5. I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue. My five-year-old niece told her class how cool it was that her aunts could do this.

6. I believe everyone should have an updated passport with them at all times. I am freaking out that mine has not been updated to Morris yet, and I have to part with it for 2 weeks. You never know when a travel opportunity will present itself.

7. I was grounded in the 9th grade. During this grounding, I "had" to go to Philadelphia to attend a Duke game with my Dad. It just so happened Christian Laettner made a last second jump shot to beat out Kentucky 104-103 making it one of "the greatest college basketball games ever played."

8. I could live in the darkroom. In grad school it was one of my favorite places. I miss it not only because I haven't been in one for awhile, but mainly because as an art form traditional b/w printing is fading away. There is something incredibly magical about a b/w fiber print. And, there's also something magical about spending way too many hours, with your friends, in the dark, on chemical overload belting out Brittney Spears songs.

9. I sing as if I were on American Idol when I'm in the car. If Greg is there too, we harmonize and sometimes rap.

10. My cats make me happy. I don't think of myself as a crazy cat person, but they have been with me since 2000 and I love them to pieces. They've flown 3 times and lived in 6 places.

11. I hope to audition for The Amazing Race someday. My cousin, Megan, is going to be my partner when the time is right. I think we'd rock it.

12. I recently started listening to The Grateful Dead again. It's been about 14 years since my entire collection was stolen from Morris Hall freshman year. I still love them, and still wonder who has my collection with the initials SF on every cd.

13. I was cleaning out my "office" recently and found my collection of mixed tapes. I want to convert them to mp3's. Is this possible? I'm talking old recordings of the Hot 9 at 9.

14. I love, love, love movie theater popcorn. Go to the movies, I won't share it. Pop it at home, I won't eat it.

15. My favorite part of a movie is when the title of the film is worked into the dialog. "The Perfect Storm" is a great example of this. Next time you are watching a movie wait for it and you'll understand.

16. I am allergic to dryer sheets.

17. I ran away once. I was young, and we lived in Brookshire. No one noticed.

18. The night I ran into Greg again, I knew my life was about to change. I had told Julie on the way to a party that something was going to happen that night, I just didn't know what it was. I am a lucky girl!

19. I could not survive without my sisters. They are my sanity and my world.

20. Oct./Nov. 2007 was one of the most incredible times in my life. I had the privilege of traveling with a dear friend's husband to bring home their new baby girl from China. I was completely honored that they would trust me with such precious cargo, and I am touched by their family every day.

21. When I read a book I have a hard time setting it down until I finish. I often read late into the night by the light of my headlamp.

22. I am not a religious person, but I consider myself to be pretty spiritual. For example, I believe the family of giraffes that came to my wedding were my loved ones looking over me. Seriously.

23. I will watch Goonies anytime it is on. What's not to love about hunting treasure.

24. I never thought I had a chance of getting into Photo School. Really thought it was a huge long shot, and didn't have a backup plan. I don't know how it happened, but I am glad it did. I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life than what I am doing now. My time in SF changed me, and those who I spent those 3 years with I will forever be grateful to.

25. I have the best friends in the world. Such good friends, that as I am writing this they are popping up messages with things about myself that even I forgot.

I can't even tell you how long I have been waiting for this beauty to arrive, and now she's almost here! My new Canon 5D Mark ii...isn't she pretty! Canon announced the launch of her last year, and had a release date set for sometime in November I think. I joined waitlists here locally...#303 on the Robert's list. And, I have stalked the internet on a regular basis just hoping to be the lone photographer to find the super secret location that actually had one in stock! Or, even the retailer that said it was backordered, but would still let you order it. And, then last week it happened! I found it! And, yesterday my paypal was processed, and I received an email saying she'll arrive tomorrow! I am head over heels!! I have saved penny after penny to get her! Not only is she pretty, but she has an ISO that goes up to who knows how high that will aid in many more low light situations, which happen to be some of my favorite. And, wait for it...video! Yes, that's right, you heard me...video. I have no idea how this will play into my wedding coverage in the future, but I can't wait to play around with it! Well, I don't want to jinx it, so I will tell you much more once she arrives!!!

This is a continuation of the jewelry shoot I did before the holidays. We got together today to get a few close-up shots of the Samson and Delilah collection. Be sure to check out their website. Yeah! I made it. 7 days of blogging! I promise to be much more around from now on. So, for my last "required" post I wanted to share a few images from the commercial shoot I was working on in December. We had 3 days of shooting, so this is just a small sliver from the hundreds of images shot. I am just now starting to go through them! The goal was to capture people in their homes interacting, living a healthy lifestyle, as well as some images in a corporate environment. And, we have one more day of shooting in a hospital. For Fun: Straight No Chaser

I have to apologize for my post yesterday! It was such a hectic day, and the time just got away from me. So, without further a due, I introduce you to Straight No Chaser. They are a fantastic a cappella group formed at Indiana University in 1996, and they are incredible! I had never heard of them before, but was quickly caught up to speed by my girlfriends who are former IU grads and big fans. They have recently become a Youtube phenomenon, and have signed a record deal and made an appearance on the Today Show. And, yesterday the current student group performed at my grandmother's retirement home. It was a gift to my grandmother so she was the belle of the ball! So, to make up for my incredibly short post yesterday...I have learned how to post video!!! This is very exciting! So, check them out...

Santa came to town...

And, I must have been a really good girl this year! He surprised me with 17 inches of pure perfection! I am in heaven as I am typing on my new, shiny, bright, not banged up fancy laptop. I love it so much I am scared to use it! Check it out...

And, look at it's beauty next to my vintage 12 inch...which they don't even make anymore!
And, then there's this gal. She did not come with Santa. She and her brother have now lived with us for a year. And, although I was told they would be going to a kindergarten class once turned from tadpoles to frogs...they didn't.
And, of course, for Christmas they needed a new home. So, I can't decide if I was really all that good this year because we now have this living in our guest bedroom! I have used a shoe to show just how large this is. And, although Greg is thrilled, I haven't figured out my feelings yet. We'll see...

On another note, do you know what the best part of today was? It is almost 6pm, and it's still light out! It has made me forget that my car is shivering, and I have to now go and get in it. Till tomorrow...

I have so much to catch up on, and I don't even know where to begin! So, I'll start with the things to come. So many exciting changes with Sara Morris Photography I can't wait. I am taking the days of January and February to start rebuilding my brand, as well as getting caught up with my business practices, etc. I have some commercial work I will be doing during this time, but if the blog is low on picture posts that's because I will be busy with attorneys, tax advisors, graphic designers, etc. who will be getting SMP in order! I will be sure to share bits and pieces with you as they come together!

I am in the process of creating a baby plan...not for my personal life, but a series of portrait sessions to mark the first year of one's life...the newborn, the 6 monther, and the one year. I am still putting it all together, but will launch it sometime before Spring. In the meantime, if you are having a newborn before then just get in touch and we can put together a personal collection!
As a rule of thumb, newborn sessions are best done within the first 2 weeks of birth.

I will also be restructuring my pricing. Session fees will remain the same, but I will be implementing new portrait collections that will make ordering your prints fun!

And, I am sure there will be some more surprises along the way! So for now, I am off to finish the final images for the girls at Samson and Delilah!

I was so excited to get in to work today, and post my greatest blog entry ever. But, low and behold...no Internet! It's amazing how hard it is to get through a day without it. I haven't quite come to terms with that! Anyway, I wanted to give a quick hello via my iPhone (haven't figured out how to post pictures through it yet) but pretty cool anyway. It's been way too long! I have been so blog negligent! I am so sorry. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind, and I am finally feeling like my feet are starting to land on the ground. But, not for too long! I have so much to write about...Christmas (especially what Santa brought), a trip to Turks & Caicos, a shoot with Blue Cross Blue Shield, NYE, and all of the things in between! I had the most fun on Monday with Amy & Ashlee, the ladies behind the incredible jewelry line Samson and Delilah. I wanted to apologize for being such an absent blogger this last week. I have been rushing to get all things holiday completed, and have just embarked on day one of a 3 day commercial shoot for Blue Cross Blue Shield. We went from 8am to 9pm today, and I am so tired! So, I should get something posted over the weekend, but will be away for the next few days. And, stay tuned next week! I am looking very forward to a shoot with jewelry designers Ashlee & Amy of Samson and Delilah. They have some great ideas, and I can't wait to see how it all comes together!

Greg and I are getting our tree this evening, so I have been thinking back to last year which was our first Christmas in our new house. We were so excited! We made a big night of going to get our tree, and decorating it...placing each ornament and Hunter Dan (a gift from my brother-in-law as well as our tree topper for some reason) in the right spot. Sort of. And, having lived in a studio apartment for most of my adult life, this was also the first Christmas tree for both Ludlow and Bleecker. Maternity: Baby K

What a pleasure I had today spending time with these parents-to-be. My first maternity shoot, so I was a bit nervous. I'm use to shooting the babies after they are born. But, Mrs. K was ready and had some fantastic ideas! I am so impressed with these two! For the past 6 months they have had an envelope containing the sex of baby K, and it is still sealed! Only a few more weeks now...

Thanksgiving in New York

There is something to be said for New York City during the holidays. Greg and I have spent my birthday in New York for the past 3 years, and I absolutely love it. It is the only time we go back and visit now...ice skating in the park, the tree at Rockefeller center, the guys on the corner selling the nuts that are good themselves, but even better because they keep your hands warm. So, when my family decided they wanted to spend Thanksgiving there I was thrilled! It was the weekend before my birthday, so we just extended our trip a bit.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a sight to be seen! We could see the tops of the balloons from our hotel, but the real view was on the street. At one point, Greg and I sprinted across the actual parade, and I believe we were under Dumbo's trunk...I don't recommend that. The rest of our week was filled with family dinners, The Rockettes, walks in central park (images I will share later), and a Tom Cruise sighting just outside of the Little Mermaid.

It was a great weekend and a wonderful time with my family. I hope you all had great holidays as well. So, I'll let the images speak...

I don't know why, but I love the tree stands in the city...my sister would have to carry hers up 6 flights of stairs!

I was thrilled to get to meet Julia Failey a few days ago. We had chatted a bit about her photoshoot, and finally were able to meet in person. She is a jewelry designer in Chicago, and was going to be in Indy for a jewelry show. Her work is beautiful, and inspired by the outdoors. You have to check it out: www.juliafailey.com. I was so excited when this family contacted me. They wanted something fun and different, and were willing to try out a new location. I have never shot at the canal before, and they jumped on it! They wanted more organic and natural shots, and we had the perfect backdrop for playing around. Plus the gray clouds parted just in time to let the sun come out! On the days when I am home editing, I get up a bit after he has already left for work, and the house is quiet and quite chilly right now. I eat my breakfast, turn on The Today Show and settle in to the couch to return emails and get to work on my photos. Within minutes this guy jumps up and settles in...not the most convenient for typing but we've figured it out...except for right now...I am getting an evil look!

Ok, so months back I agreed to make this list. My friend, Jessica, of Lemongrass Photography was challenged to create a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days, and #98 on her list was to encourage 3 others to creat the same list. So, I accepted the challenge. And, let me tell you it was the most intense thing! Greg and I drove from Indy to Detroit, and I could only come up with 48 things in 5 hours! And, I like to do things!! Something incredible happened over the weekend...I signed on to my stat counter and I saw the number 5,000! 5,000 visits to my blog! I absolutely love it and feel overjoyed that people come to visit me and see what is new. Photography is something I have always done for myself, so to have others wanting to know what is going on is awesome. And, I just feel really blessed.

I have to send a shout out to my husband because he has been the most incredibly supportive man since I have known him, but especially these past few weeks. My weekends have been filled with photo shoots, and my nights filled with hours of editing. So, for him to still want to know how it is all going and to see pictures...I love it. I know if our roles were reversed...I would be more pushy and want him to come out and play with me. Another reason why I love him so much...walking out our front door with him is always an adventure! I couldn't resist sharing this one from Halloween...so proud!

P.S. Halloween would be his favorite holiday.

These guys are so fun! I wish I had a backyard like this when I was growing up! They were given so much freedom with this shoot...from what to wear to what activities they wanted to do...we fished, rode bikes, skateboarded, swung on the swing and climbed in the trees. Their mom really wanted them captured in their world. I loved it! You could see how much fun they have together as siblings, and their independence and creativity are inspiring!

"I'm a movie star!" was what their youngest was chanting throughout his one-on-one time during the shoot with me. It was cracking me up! You can see by his poses below that he could definitely make it in Hollywood! I had so much fun with these guys! We were racing against the sun because the time change on Saturday night didn't register with me or the fact that we would have an hour less of sunlight. But, the light was beautiful, the kids were a blast, and we had a ball! Plus, we finished up just in time to all go and see the Colts bring home a victory!

What fun we had on Sunday! I was asked to photograph Oktoberfest out at Trader's Point Creamery, and they not only had the perfect day but they put on the perfect day! The kids were busy chasing chickens, petting the baby calfs, taking hayrides and carving pumpkins while the adults were dancing to Polka Boy and tasting the wares of Upland Brewery. It was such a fun time, and I am already looking forward to next year!

Rainy Day...

Greg has talked for years about wanting to have a tank full of jellyfish. Right now we have 3 aquatic frogs that are entertaining to watch, but I never understood what he wanted with jellyfish. We spent a trip to Vietnam surrounded by them, and our honeymoon swimming away from them. And, then we went to the Indianapolis Zoo...and, now I understand. When you stare at a tank full of jellyfish you become mesmerized. I could watch them for hours without a thought in my mind. Things have become so crazy recently with my busy season and my first big commercial job (woo-hoo!) that now I wish we had a family of jellyfish to watch! For now, I will have to watch the rain because that is what it has been doing...all day! It will do!

My China Travel Group Reunion...

Last year I had the honor of traveling with a very good friends's husband to China to bring home their new baby girl, Zanna. I say very good friend, but really I should say family...she is the closest thing I know to family without actually being related. It was one of the most incredible times in my life, and I am so thankful to them for giving me this experience. We spent 15 days in China with a traveling group of 10 families adopting, and I can still remember it like it was yesterday...the breakfasts of rice cereal and watermelon, the friendly people, the Moon over The Great Wall, the sounds of the bus rides with all the girls, and my favorite moment...bringing Zanna down the escalator at the Indianapolis airport to meet her Mommy! This last weekend we had a one year reunion, and all but one family were able to join us. It was so awesome to see all the girls running around and playing together, and will continue to be as the reunions happen over the years! This first image is from our final day in China...

I don't even have words for these next few images. It's an incredible feeling to be able to document the love between two people, especially when it is one of your closest friends and you have watched their relationship grow along their journey. I am so happy for Alissa and Aaron, and you can just see their love shining through! They live downtown and we had a blast exploring Mass Ave, nearly getting runover in our attempt for the perfect shot in the middle of the road, and for breaking all rules at the IMA to get the date of their upcoming wedding! They were so brave heading out in our unusual 85 degree October day! Megan and Matt live in a beautiful old victorian downtown, so when they said they wanted to take pictures out and about down there I was thrilled! We explored their neighborhood, and then headed off to Mass Ave. It was so fun to photograph down there, and we got to go and visit my favorite doorway...the doorway of light and truth...one you have seen before and will probably see again! We just had the absolute pleasure of attending the wedding of two of our favorite people, JJ & Lindsay, in Sedona, Arizona. It was such a beautiful place, and they are 2 of the most creative people I know! It was intimate, loving, fun and completely them. They covered all the details! I am so sad I did not have my camera in hand when the bride and groom jumped into the pool in full wedding garb! I can't wait to see what their photographer captures.

I didn't take too many pics, as I was completely under the weather and having a hard time seeing straight, but I love the ones I did get. In case you didn't know, I am a complete addict of vintage photo boots and so happy to have a new toy!! Check it out...

Some of the details...Lindsay's brother played one of my favorite songs from Juno on the guitar and harmonica! It made me want to get married again and have him perfom!
The one thing I did not get to capture was a shot of Courtney Kaiser of Kaiser Cartel. She sang while the bride walked down the aisle, and it took my breath away! She is an Indianapolis native currently living in Brooklyn and she and her boyfriend/bandmate were so much fun! Definitely check out their tunes! I just downloaded their album and am loving it!

Carmel International Arts Festival

Be sure to check out the Carmel International Arts Festival this weekend! I went last year and it was a really good show! I highly recommend it! And, be sure to stop by Bella Chic on Saturday if you are over there or go there especially to see Bella Chic. Julie picked up 2 loads of furniture this week, and has 4 more on the way. It will be like a French flea market in the yard! Tons of great stuff and her brother will also be attending with incredible cabinets, bookshelves, etc. made of fun old parts. I am sad to not be able to work the show, but will be checking it out first thing in the morning!

After my post yesterday, I had some requests to show more images from our wedding in Kenya. So, here you go! I didn't want to overload you, so here are some now and as I get out of the busy season and passed the holidays, I will share more of my own work from my visits there as well. The following are images by both Hilary Hurt and Pamela Mougin. I will probably get in trouble for posting this first one, because looking back we have all wondered why we (my cousin Megan, myself, sister Katie and cousin Ashlee) are hugging an elephant...but, it is a world famous elephant made by our dear friend Murray Grant. P.S. I have finally become smarter than Blogger! I have been struggling to learn how to increase the size of my images on the blog, and I think I have finally mastered it. The only problem is that on my itty bitty laptop it looks as if the images are cut off, but on my other computer it looks perfect. So, please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on the image size! Some day soon I will have a whold new setup with a slidshow, but that is still a bit off! Our Kenyan friends...

I am so excited! Greg and I were married a little over a year ago in Kenya, and some of our friends/hosts are in town, and we are having dinner with them tonight! They have been in Indy for almost a week, but we were out of town, etc. So, we are so excited to catch up with them this next week and attend the Indianapolis Prize with them this weekend.

This photo of us was taken by the fabulous Hilary Hurt, a Kenyan native currently living in Paris. Hilary's images and the sculpture work of Murray Grant, also a Kenyan native, will be on display at my aunt's gallery, The Becky Fehsenfeld Fine Art Gallery, in Zionsville this Friday from 4-7pm. It will be open to the public, and I highly urge you to check it out. Part of the street will be tented, plus there will be cocktails and appetizers. The photographs, paintings and bronze sculptures are all based on the idea of The African Experience and they are fantastic! I am told there is to be a life size bronze of a female leopard...I have seen one leopard in the wild, and it just happened to be on a drive with my friend Murray who was just beginning his research for this particular sculpture...come check it out!

Something New: Album Design

So, I am catching up from Labor Day! Greg and I stayed in town for the holiday weekend, and had a wonderful time exploring parts of Indy that we had never been to before. We kicked that weekend off catching up with friends on Friday night at the incredible Trader's Point Creamery. They have a special dinner on the deck each Friday night, I believe through October, and the meal changes each week. I highly recommend a night here! We ate a fabulous meal on the deck, explored the grounds, chased the chickens around, and were the last to leave! They have Oktoberfest coming up October 26th...check it out!

Wedding: Malia & Dana

I absolutely ADORED working with Dana & Malia on their wedding. They are an incredible couple, and you could feel the love shared between the two. The whole day was special, and check out the emotion in this series...

Dana & Malia agreed to do a "first look" which I love! Once Malia was ready, Dana was waiting for her in private, intimate location so the 2 could connect by themselves pre-ceremony. The series above is from that moment. "First Looks" are good because you get time alone, and then you are able to go off and spend some more time together taking your portraits. Often in first looks, the groom will have a letter waiting for him while he awaits his bride or a tap on the shoulder once she has arrived. Because they wanted to do this, we were able to capture all of these fun locations for their Bride and Groom portraits...it slows down the day so you aren't trying to get it all in before the reception. So, here they are...and, there are so many more! They opted for a more modern look which was fun to do all over downtown!

The words coming through are just perfect for their day!

Isn't she lovely (must sing words)...yes, absolutely beautiful and the perfect little model! I did a mini newborn session with Kaylin (I adore the name!) today and she was incredible! Just six days old, and she opens her eyes, bats her lashes and loves her mommy! Here are a couple of my favorites!

I love how the world works sometimes! Greg and I changed our Labor Day plans earlier in the week to stay in Indy rather than head up to Crystal Lake which we have done for every Labor Day that I can remember. We were a bit sad, yet in desperate need of some R&R. And, then, the same day I had a frequent Bella Chic customer come in and tell me she had met someone who knew me. She is a new Boden sales rep for Indy, and had just met a friend of mine, the wife of one of my dearest friends from college, who is the Boden rep in Lafayette. And, we get to talking and her husband had gone to Miami, she had graduated from Carmel and they had moved to Indy from Chicago...sound familiar!

Anyway, we got to chatting more and decided to do a shoot for her upcoming Boden Trunk Shows happening next week. Her daughters are precious, and such wonderful models! This was the first shoot where I had to make sure I was also representing the clothes. It was hard to not just focus on the eyes, but I had such a ball with these two! They are being printed tomorrow, dry mounted Tuesday and will be ready to go in time for the first of her many trunk shows Tuesday evening! Whew! What fun!

There wasn't a dry eye in the church...Stephanie and Bobby radiated love! And, I was so happy to be there to document their special day. Jessica of Lemongrass Photography and I had tons of fun running around with them! They were up for anything...riding around in golf carts, lying on the ground, and climbing on tractors! And, both of their families made us feel so welcome and truly appreciated. It was such a special day! Here are a few of my favorites!

This is one of my absolute favorite things that happens in the world of photography. I don't know if it's the way the light works or the way the eye is composed...but, I find looking deep into one's eyes to see the world from their point of view is one of the joys of life! The above image is just a fragment of an image I took over the weekend, yet it is so powerful!

I have much to post, yet can barely keep my eye's open! I will have new images up tomorrow of an incredibly cute little boy! But, until then I will leave you with some adventures from my very recent Chicago trip...

Thank you so much to Meghan for my roadside assistance! Yes Ally, we ran out of gas about 3 minutes from your house. However, we were very resourceful and resolved the problem in under 15 minutes...Many thanks to Meghan for finding the gas station, filling the container, and carrying it back to the car...many thanks also to the owner of the nutrition store who pointed her in the right direction, and to the nice man who instructed us in the art of removing the cap to the gas container...and, of course, to Saab who I was on hold with the entire time of this wondering why I ran out of gas 2 miles after my light went on!

When the car began to shake, screech, and come to a halt I was very concerned that I would not be able to make it to what I had been waiting patiently many weeks for...

Free to Succeed 2008 w/David Jay & Jasmine Star!

Jasmine Star has been a true inspiration to me, and one of the many reasons why I decided to start my blog. Her absolutely fabulous blog is one of the first blog's that I began to stalk. She is very inspirational to photographer's and enjoys passing along her infinite wisdom. I am so happy that we got the car "fixed" and me on my way so that I was able to see her in person all the way from the Orange County. She is a tremendous wedding photographer, and all around cool person!

Not only did I get to hear both Jasmine and David talk about their adventures in photography, but I also learned about a bunch of new products out there and how to make them work...watch out for slideshows...on the site, on the blog and on facebook!

I decided not to post the pictures I captured while on my drive home last night...3 hours, many thoughts of stopping at a hotel, 1 actual stop at a "no vacancy" hotel, and 1 redbull later I pulled into my driveway at 2:30am. It was a very fun eventful trip to Chicago...I am now a brunette...but, I am definately looking forward to bed tonight!

What a treat to photograph these two! They were such troopers, and agreed to go on an adventure with me. We had a tea party in the woods, explored an abandoned barn, and hoped we didn't run in to any snakes! Mission accomplished! I last photographed them when the youngest was just born! I can't believe how quickly time flies! Here is a sneak preview...
